PhD Admission under "Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT: Phase II” Sponsored by MeitY, Govt. of India, Academic Year: 2026 - 27

 

Applications in prescribed format are invited from eligible candidates for admission to PhD program on Full Time basis for the Autumn Semester 2026 in the following department of the University under the ‘Visvesvaraya PhD scheme, Phase-II’ supported by MeitY, Govt. of India:

Computer Science and Information Technology	Essential: M.E./M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering/ IT/ Electronics or MCA/M.Sc. in Computer Science/ IT with 55% and above marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA. A relaxation of 5% in marks will be applicable to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PWD (having more than 40% disability) and other such categories as specified in case of admission in an institution under Government of Assam. Desirable: GATE / NET qualified	01 (UR)	Cybersecurity, Network Security and Artificial Intelligence

The major features of the scheme for the full-time scholars are given below:

Fellowship: Rs. 46,250/- per month in 1^st and 2^nd year and @Rs. 52,500 per month in 3^rd, 4^th and 5^th years of Ph.D. (support till PhD completion or 5 years whichever is earlier).

Reimbursement of Rent (RoR): This component is linked with the fellowship of Ph.D. Candidate. The rate of RoR is 16% of fellowship for class Y cities/towns. The classification of the cities is as per the notification issued by the Ministry of Finance for the reimbursement of HRA.

Research contingency Grant Support: An amount of Rs.1,20,000/- Per Year/Full-time Ph.D. candidate for support duration of Ph.D. candidate as per the terms and conditions of the ‘Visvesvaraya Ph.D. scheme, Phase- II’ supported by MeitY, Govt. of India.

Support for attending international conferences: Support would be available from 3^rd year of the Ph.D as per the terms and conditions of the ‘Visvesvaraya Ph.D. scheme, Phase- II’ supported by MeitY, Govt. of India.

Visit to Labs abroad: One-time support would be provided from 3^rd year, for 6 months visit to labs abroad with monthly fellowship of Rs. 1,50,000. Besides this Travel/Visa expenses up to Rs. 1,50,000 will be provided to Ph.D candidate as per the terms and conditions of the ‘Visvesvaraya Ph.D. scheme, Phase-II’ supported by MeitY, Govt. of India.

 

How to apply: Interested candidates may Apply Online in the Admission portal of Cotton University through the link: https://admissions.cottonuniversity.ac.in/ by paying the application fee (non-refundable) through UPI/Debit Card / Credit Card/ Net banking only at the time of filling of application form.

 

Application Fees: INR 1,200.00 (Rupees one thousand two hundred only)

Selection procedure: Selection will be made on the basis of overall academics and personal interview performance. The names of the candidates short listed for personal interview will be uploaded on the Cotton University website. A consistently good academic career will be preferred.
