Lakshman Prasad Acharya is the 32nd Governor of Assam. He was the former Governor of Sikkim and Member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council (MLC) prior to his appointment as the Governor of Assam.
Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, hailing from Varanasi, a pivotal city on the Ganges in northern India, began his educational career in 1973 at Bhartiya Shishu Mandir in Ramnagar. On June 22, 1977, he launched the “शिशु शिक्षा गांव की ओर” (Child Education in the Village) campaign, aiming to establish schools in the most remote villages of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. His notable educational institutions include Sishu Shiksha Niketan, Shri Kalidas Shiksha Sansthan Junior High School, and Smt. Pyari Devi Intermediate College, marking him as the first to open private schools in Eastern Uttar Pradesh villages.
In 1990, Acharya ventured into politics as the divisional president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for Ramnagar. His political career advanced with roles including General Secretary for the Varanasi-Chandauli district in 1995, District President of BJP for Varanasi in 1996, and Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Fisheries Development Corporation (UPFDC), a position of significant influence. He was elected as a Member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council (MLC) in 2015 and re-elected in 2021, reflecting his ongoing impact and service in both educational and political spheres.
