How To Apply for Undergraduate Courses


Application for admission to any UG programme in Cotton University must be filled up and submitted ONLINE through the University website www.cottonuniversity.ac.in. There will be separate application windows/tabs for the following programmes:

(i) BA Honours (except in Mass Communication and Journalism)

(ii) BSc Honours (except in Biotechnology)

(iii) BA Liberal Arts

(iv) BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications (Self-financing course))

(v) BSc Honours in Biotechnology (Self-financing course)

(vi) BA Honours in Mass Communication and Journalism (Self-financing course)

 

Applicants may apply for more than one of the programmes/courses listed above. Admission will be strictly in order of merit and governed by the University’s Admission

 

Rules and Regulations.

The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor’s decision regarding admission shall be considered as final. Application is free of charge.

Documents to be submitted ONLINE while applying or at the time of Admission:

a. Pass Certificate and Marksheet of the qualifying examination (HS or equivalent 10+2 examination from a recognized board or council).

b. Reserved Category Certificate if applicable (Only certificates issued by competent authority under the Government of Assam shall be deemed valid).

c. A copy of Passport size photograph (in jpg format, 50-100 kb size)

d. Age proof: Certificate from authorized official where Date of Birth is mentioned.

e. Gap in study: Candidates having passed the qualifying examination in an earlier year (2020, 2019 or 2018) will have to submit (online) a Self-declaration, certifying that she/he was not involved in any unlawful activities during the interim period and that she/he would withdraw admission from any other regular UG course presently enrolled in, if selected for admission. Candidates having more than 3 (three) years of study gap will not be eligible for admission.

f. In case the admission committee is unable to verify a document submitted online, then the concerned candidate may be required to physically visit the University to show the original document for verification. The candidate will be duly notified through the contact number or email ID provided in her/his online application in such a case.

 

(Marksheets, certificates and such other documents of a student required at the time of online application and admission are to be uploaded in PDF format while the signature and photograph are to be uploaded in JPG/JPEG format)

NOTE: If at any stage any original document of an applicant is found to be fake or fabricated or in any other manner defective OR if any applicant is found to have furnished wrong information, the said applicant will not be admitted and if already admitted, admission will be cancelled without any prior notice in this regard. If the same is found after the completion of the Programme of Study, the applicant’s degree will be cancelled and appropriate legal action will be taken against him/her.

How To Apply for Postgraduate Courses


SEATS ARE DIVIDED INTO COTTON GRADUATES AND OPEN CATEGORY:

(I) COTTON GRADUATE: 50% of the total seats in each programme of study shall be reserved for candidates graduating from Cotton University in 2021 or 2020 under this Category, with the exception of MLISc, LLM and MSc (AI&ML) programmes.

(II) OPEN CATEGORY:

a. The rest 50% of total seats shall be open to all eligible candidates from any recognised University.

b. All Seats of MA in Bodo, MLISc and LLM and shall be filled up from the Open Category.

MODE OF ADMISSION:

A) UNDER COTTON GRADUATE CATEGORY

(i) CGPA based: In those subjects which require the Honour/Major in the concerned

subject as an eligibility criterion in the UG Degree, admission shall be given on the basis

of UG CGPA (Honours/Core) subject to a minimum CGPA of 5.5 OBC/MOBC and 5.0 for SC/ST(P)/ST(H).

for UR, 5.3 for

(ii) Entrance based (CPGEE 2021): In those subjects for which the eligibility criteria of Honours/Major in the qualifying UG Degree does not specify the concerned subject only, admissions shall be on the basis of CPGEE 2021 scores.

(iii) The reservation policy of Govt. of Assam for OBC/MOBC/ST(P)/ST(H)/SC/EWS/PWD shall be applicable in this category.

B) UNDER OPEN CATEGORY

(i) Admission in all subjects shall be on the basis of CPGEE 2020 scores.

(ii) The reservation policy of Govt. of Assam for OBC/MOBC/ST(P)/ST(H)/SC/EWS/PWD shall be applicable in this category.

COTTON POST-GRADUATE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (CPGEE 2021):

CGPEE 2021 shall be held during 21 - 25 September 2021 and the detailed examination programme shall be notified by the Controller of Examinations, CU. The examinations shall be of Objective Multiple Choice type questions and OMR answer sheets shall be used. Questions shall be based on

the Cotton University UG syllabuses of the concerned subjects except for subjects not being taught as Honours/Core courses in this University. For those subjects not being taught as Honours/Core courses in Cotton University the entrance examinations shall be based on corresponding standard syllabuses of UGC/reputed Universities of India. For every correct answer 4 marks shall be awarded and for each wrong answer 1 mark shall be deducted (i.e. minus 1 mark for a wrong answer).

How To Apply for PhD Courses


Eligibility Criteria:

(i) A Master’s degree or equivalent from a UGC recognised University with at least 55% marks in aggregate or where applying. its equivalent grade, in a subject related to the Ph.D. discipline

(ii) A relaxation of 5% of marks or an equivalent relaxation of grade, from the requirement of above, shall be applicable to candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC/ Differently-Abled and such other categories as specified in case of admission in an institution under Government of Assam.

(iii)While determining the eligibility of a candidate subject to conditions (i) and (ii) above, grace marks or points awarded in the qualifying examination, if any, shall not be counted.

Selections procedure:

(i) Selections will be via a Written Entrance Test followed by Viva-voce to be held separately for each Department/Discipline. The minimum qualifying marks in the Entrance Test is fixed at 50% as per UGC guidelines. The minimum qualifying mark for candidates belonging to categories mentioned in (ii) above will be 45%. For final selection of candidates a weightage of 70% to the entrance test and 30% to the performance in the interview/ viva-voce shall be given.

(ii) The university reserves the option to call applicants with national-level scholarships such as UGC/CSIR Junior Research Fellowship, INSPIRE etc. to viva-voce/ interview with no consideration of their performance in the written test. However, the university also reserves the right not to exercise this option.

(iii)There shall be a 5 per cent relaxation of qualifying marks in the Written Examination for candidates belonging to reserved categories and for those who had cleared NET or SLET in the related discipline within a period of two years preceding the date of this notification.

(iv) The number of seats available for each Department/discipline will depend on permissible limits of the research scholars that can be assigned to a Guide and other relevant parameters on the date of viva-voce. The University reserves the right not to fill up any vacant seat if suitable candidates are not found.

(v) All selected Research Scholars must comply with the conditions of the PhD programme. Attendance of PhD Coursework classes is compulsory for all Research Scholars and one with attendance less than 75% of total classes held in the concerned Department/Faculty shall be debarred from appearing in the PhD Coursework Examination.
