Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was the Student Union leader of erstwhile Cotton College from the late 1980s becomes the 15th Chief Minister of Assam. Dr Sarma who was a former general secretary of Cotton College Union Society (CCUS) is the eight Chief Minister of Assam to study at this prestigious institution.

Dr. Neeraj Kayal

Recipient of the Infosys Prize in Mathematics for 2021 for his outstanding contributions to Computational Complexity. He is currently a Principal Researcher at the Microsoft Research lab in Bangalore, India, where he has been working since 2008. Dr. Neeraj did his Higher Secondary from Cotton University (then erstwhile Cotton College) 1996 -98 batch (science stream.

Dr. Binoy Kumar Saikia

The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award for Science and Technology 2021, the topmost prestigious award in scientific research in India (Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean and Planetary Sciences), is awarded to Dr. Binoy Kumar Saikia, Principal Scientist, NEIST, Jorhat. He did M.Sc. from the Department of Chemistry (2000-2001), Cotton College.

Mr. Kaushik Barua

Kaushik Barua was awarded a medal under the Royal Order of Sahametrei in Cambodia for his contributions to poverty reduction, rural development and smallholder agriculture. He was recognised as a Grand Officer or Mahasena of the Royal Order of Sahametrei, equivalent to a knighthood.

Kaushik graduated from Cotton University (then erstwhile Cotton College) in 1999, completing his Higher Secondary examination where he secured the 9th position state-wide. He then studied economics at St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi and London School of Economics. Initially, employed with the World Bank in India, he joined the United Nations’ International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in 2008.

Kaushik is also the author of two novels and won the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar for his first novel Windhorse.

Prof. Bhupendra Nath Goswami

Prof. Bhupendra Nath Goswami, Head, Centre for Clouds and Climate Research, Cotton University has been placed amongst the top 2% scientists of the World and Rank 1 in India (World top% 0.6152166) in the field of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science By Stanford University, USA.

Prof. Rakhee Kalita Moral

Prof. Rakhee Kalita Moral, Professor of English has been awarded the WISCOMP Saahas Prerna Award, 2020 by Women in Security, Conflict and Management of Peace, New Delhi, an initiative of the Dalai Lama’s Foundation for Universal Responsibility. The award is given in recognition of her exemplary contributions towards fostering gender justice and education in higher education institutes in India. Currently, she is the Head of Department of English, and Dean of Languages, Literature and Linguistics of Cotton University. Moreover, she heading Centre for Women’s Studies, Cotton University.

Mr. Dip Bhuyan

Mr. Dip Bhuyan pursued his graduation at Cotton College during 1983-88 after which he did his master's in statistics from Delhi University. Started his film making career almost three decades back, now he specializes in documentary film production on wildlife and environment. He has already begged many national awards for his works. He is the recipient of 68th National Film Award for best film on Environment Conservation and Preservation for the film  'Manah Aru Manuh'.
